IFA2 – ROUTE MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS – Stage 2

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN jointly by the King’s Harbour Master Portsmouth and the Harbour Master ABP Southampton that as part of the IFA2 Interconnector Project, Survey and maintenance works are planned to take place in the Eastern Solent by Prysmian Powerlink on behalf of the National Grid between 8 December 2023 and approximately 1 February 2024 (Stage 2).  Information about following works stages will be advertised by further LNTMs.

2. The works area is approximately 1.5 NM SSW of Gilkicker Point (as indicated on the below chartlet) by the Red Dot.

3. Stage 2 works will be undertaken by the Dynamic Positioning Vessel “CONNECTOR” (IMO 9435480; MMSI 253751000; Call Sign LXEV), Multicat Work Vessel “ROXANE Z” (IMO 9751456; MMSI 228056800; Call Sign FIRJ) and the Dive support Vessel “ IEVOLI AMBER “ (IMO 9764984; MMSI 247374600; Call Sign IBSJ).

4. Diving works from IEVOLI AMBER will commence from 9 December (weather permitting). The vessel will remain in position over the dive site during operations. When not conducting operations, IEVOLI AMBER will proceed to anchor, either at St Helen’s Roads or Spithead 8A anchorage.

5. Once diving operations are complete, CONNECTOR will commence cable maintenance operations.

6. IEVOLI AMBER and CONNECTOR will have a pilot embarked while underway in the area (including when operating in Dynamic Positioning mode).
7. All vessels involved in the works have restricted manoeuvrability while undertaking underwater operations and will be displaying the correct signals by night and day as detailed in The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972 (COLREGs).   

8. Mariners are requested to pass at a safe speed observing a 200m guard Zone around the works vessels. The Guard Zone will be marked by either the guard vessel  “HAULBOWLINE” (IMO:8847179, MMSI:232021354, Call Sign MEZW9) or “FARRA AOIFE” (IMO:9956575, MMSI:232040984, Call Sign MLCJ4).

9. All vessels involved in the works will monitor VHF Channels 11, 12 & 16 as necessary and more information can be requested from KHM Harbour Control using 02392 723694. Traffic planning to pass through the area should liaise via VTS Southampton on VHF Ch 12. 

10. LNTM 131/23 is hereby superseded.

11. Cancel this Local Notice to Mariners 31 December 2023.
