Be the force behind our power at sea

What is the Surface Fleet?

  • With a truly global impact, the Surface Fleet protects our nation’s interests, all over the world
  • From safeguarding our economy to nurturing international partnerships, the Surface Fleet’s missions are as varied as the oceans it covers
  • The Surface Fleet keeps us afloat. From destroyers and frigates to minesweepers and aircraft carriers, it’s one of the world’s most impressive naval powers
  • Each vessel serves a specific purpose and has a specialist crew, from the 280m HMS Queen Elizabeth down to the 15m LCVP MK5 amphibious assault landing craft
  • Because the function of the Surface Fleet is so diverse, all Royal Navy branches have their role to play. So whatever your background or ambition, you’ll find yours

What's it like?

You could be making key decisions and leading a specialist team in the Warfare branch. Or keeping your crew mates fit and healthy in the Medical branch. Whether you focus on a hands-on role or a more strategic position, you’ll play a key part in global naval operations. And that means no two days will ever be the same. Far from it. You might be stopping drug traffickers in the Caribbean, or bringing humanitarian relief to refugees in the Mediterranean. Whatever you do, you’ll take part in global operations with world-class kit. You’ll be the source of the strength behind the Naval Service.
