1.    NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Queen’s Harbour Master Portsmouth that Powerboat P1 English Grand Prix of the Sea (Round 3) of Superstock and AquaX Racing will take place in Stokes Bay over the period 8–10 July 2016.  Racing will involve Powerboats and Personal Watercraft.

 2.    Racing/practice will take place throughout each day as specified below. The Dockyard Port of Portsmouth 10 knot speed limit within 0.5 nm of land will be relaxed for the area and times specified for competitors and marshal/safety craft only. This includes Personal Watercraft competing in the event and being used as safety craft. Only the aforementioned craft are allowed to be operated unrestricted in this area by registered competitors/ participants and affiliated marshals.  

3.    The area designated for the event is bounded to the north west by the Stokes Bay coastline and the following points to seaward (see illustration):

    50 46.50N        001 08.70W

    50 46.20N        001 09.40W

    50 46.70N        001 11.20W

    50 47.20N        001 10.90W

The area is active for competitors to proceed at high speed for the following time periods only:

    Friday             8th July           1400 – 1600

    Saturday        9th July           1200 – 1700

    Sunday          10th July         1200 – 1600

At all other times, all competitor and marshal/safety craft are to obey the 10 knot speed limit in this area.

4.    Powerboats will be launched and recovered from Gosport Marina and will be convoyed to and from the racing area, escorted by marshal craft. Personal Watercraft will be launched and recovered from Stokes Bay Sailing Club slipways. Competitors are not permitted to exceed the speed limit while transiting unless further than 0.5 nm from land.

5.    Craft not taking part in the racing are requested to keep clear of the race areas when active, both for their own safety and for the safety of competitors. Normal Collision Regulations and Dockyard Port of Portsmouth Regulations and Directions will remain in force throughout. Spectator boats are allowed, but are requested to follow the instructions of the marshal craft, and are strongly advised to anchor where directed by them for the duration of racing.

6.    Marshal and other safety craft will be on the water for the entire period of racing and will request that vessels remain clear of the course in use. Race Control will be listening to VHF Channels 11 and 12 and may be contacted if in doubt.

7.    Exceptionally, Personal Watercraft owners participating in the event are not required to obtain a licence from QHM for this event, but must be registered with the race organisers, have third party insurance, and must operate only within the designated area or greater than 0.5 nm offshore.

8.    Cancel this Local Notice to Mariners with effect from 12 July 2016.
