1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Queen's Harbour Master Portsmouth that a as part of an Ultra-Triathlon challenge,a single swimmer will be conducting a swim in stages, that transits the northern shoreline of the Dockyard Port of Portsmouth (DPoP) and crosses the entrance of Portsmouth Harbour between Southsea Castle and Gilkicker Point.
2. One swimmer will be taking part in the event. The swimmer will be escorted by a kayak and closely followed by a safety launch, callsign ‘ISLAND PHOENIX’. A listening watch on VHF Ch11 and Ch12 will be maintained throughout their time in DPoP waters.
3. The swim through DPoP waters will take place in three stages: the first from Hayling Island to Southsea Castle; the second from Southsea Castle to Lee-on-Solent; the third from Lee-on-Solent to the Lepe. The majority of the swim will take place approximately 30m from the shoreline with exception of the second phase which will cross the Portsmouth approach channel and proceed further offshore; this is currently scheduled to take place between 0430 and 0830 on Mon 13 June 2016 although timings are subject to change at short notice. Crossing of the approach channel will be co-ordinated with Portsmouth Harbour Control to avoid disruption to vessels using the main channel.
4. The escort craft will display the International Code Flag ‘ALPHA’ whilst escorting the swimmer. All mariners are requested to keep a good lookout and pass well clear of the swimmer and the support craft.
5. Cancel this Local Notice to Mariners with effect from 15 June 2015.
