1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Queen's Harbour Master Portsmouth that an Oil Pollution response exercise will take place off Lee-on-Solent inside the vicinity of 50 47’76N 001 13’37W, 50 46’92N 001 11’18W, 50 47’67N 001 13’75W, 50 46’31N 001 11’52W. The exercise will be conducted by Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL).
2. The exercise will not involve the use of any pollutants, but will consist of the deployment of various items of oil spill containment equipment. As part of the exercise, 3 x 200 metre booms will be deployed and towed by allocated vessels to simulate collection of pollutant.
3. There will be four vessels used in the exercise, the “EARL 2” (LOA 19m), “WILLCARRY” (LOA 30m), “WILLWREN” (LOA 9.2m), and the “WILLJAY” (LOA 11.1m).
4. Mariners are requested to keep well clear of the area, particularly while booms are under tow and the vessels involved in the towing will be restricted in their ability to manoeuvre.
5. The exercise is scheduled to commence at 0830 each morning and last for approximately 5 hours. QHM Harbour Control will be kept informed of the work in progress and may be contacted on VHF Ch 11 or by telephoning 023 92 723689 for the latest information. The vessels will also be monitoring VTS Southampton on VHF Ch12.
6. This notice replaces LNTM 24/16 and converts the positional information in paragraph 1 to reflect decimals of a minute for ease of plotting on a chart.
7. Cancel LNTM 24/16. Cancel this LNTM on 29 April 2016.
