IFA2 – HVAC CABLE LAYING WORKS

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Queen’s Harbour Master Portsmouth that as part of the IFA2 Interconnector Project, HVAC cable laying works will take place between Chilling and Daedalus. An overview of the cable routes can be seen below, where the works associated to the LNTM are indicated. These cable laying works are planned to take place between 1 July and 31 August 2019.  

2. Cable Laying barge NP289 will surface lay the six cables on the seabed along the HVAC cable route. In periods while the cable is exposed on the seabed, guard vessels will be stationed to monitor the cable and provide advice to mariners. A separate dedicated LNTM will be issued for the Cable burial works that are planned after all six (6) cables have been laid.

3. NP289 will manoeuvre along the cable route using a combination of anchors and spud legs, which will be deployed within the areas shown at the diagram above.  Vessels should coordinate with local safety support and guard vessels for any clarifications on the mooring lines and anchor positions; anchors will be marked with buoys. Vessels should always pass a safe distance around the operations and never between the vessel and an anchor in use, where mooring cables under tension will be present.

4. Cable Laying works at are being carried out by using the barge NP289 (MMSI 244750587; Call Sign PCBG)(pictured below), and the following tug vessels:
MORAG M – TUG (MMSI: 235074938; IMO: 9546849) towing NP 289.
AILEEN M – TUG/SUPPORT (MMSI: 235077287; IMO: 9570888; Call Sign - 2DAL6) towing NP 289 and supporting nearshore operations.

Cable installation at each end of the route will be supported by ABCO using a barge and small local support vessels where needed.


5. Vessels should pass at a safe speed and distance (approximately 500 metres) from all construction and support vessels. During these works the vessels will have restricted manoeuvrability as they complete their work scope. Deployed Guard Vessels will monitor the exposed areas of cable while burial progresses and advise of safe distances locally. The vessels will monitor VHF Channel 12 and 16 at all times.
