IFA2 – NEAR SHORE TRENCHING WORKS LEE-ON-THE-SOLENT

1.  NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN jointly by the Queen’s Harbour Master Portsmouth and Harbour Master ABP Southampton that as part of the IFA2 Interconnector Project, a trench (approximately 1.5m deep, 1.6m wide) will be excavated and a spoil pile (Approximately 1.0m high) shall be placed parallel between 10 and 15m to the west of the trench. It is expected the trenching works will take approximately 6 - 8 weeks, commencing on the 30 September 2019.  Cable Pulling operations will be notified under a separate Notice To Mariners.  

2. The 2.3km works corridor will be demarcated along the west of the trench (60m to the west) by lit Yellow Marker Buoys (Fl Y 5s) located every 100m.  

3. The vessels operating in the area during the works are:

Capall Mara (MMSI: 232010652 Call Sign: MBSF3). A Backhoe Dredger undertaking the marine trenching works. The vessel shall remain on site and manned 24hrs per day, 7 days per week unless required to return to port. Vessel shall act as a significant visual aid of where excavations are being undertaken.

C57 Red Squirrel (MMSI: 377744000. Call Sign: J8B5722).  An 18.3m x 18.3m JUB (Jack-Up Barge) to support and undertake trenching works. The vessel shall remain on site 24hrs per day, 7 days per week unless required to return to port with crew onboard during operations. Vessel shall act as a significant visual aid of where excavations are being undertaken.

The C57 Red Squirrel Jack Up Barge will also be undertaking enabling works along the corridor in mid-late September

4. The minimum depth in vicinity of the spoil heap will be 0.7m below Chart Datum.  A safety boat will be present during daylight hours when height of tide is below 1.5m to warn transiting vessels of the shallower than charted water.  Vessels are requested to so far as possible transit to the south of the works corridor and avoid passing between the yellow buoys.

5. Vessels are furthermore requested to pass at a safe speed and distance and fishing vessels are advised to remain a safe distance (approximately 500m) from the works vessels. The vessels will monitor VHF Channel 12 and 16 at all times.
