PLYMOUTH SOUND - DIRECTION

PLYMOUTH ARMED FORCES DAYS 25 & 26 JUNE 2016

1. This is a direction by the Queen’s Harbour Master Plymouth pursuant to the Dockyard Port of Plymouth Order 1999.

2. The Water Events Diary 2016 gave early notice of Armed Forces Days (AFD), programmed to take place at Plymouth over the weekend 25 - 26 June 2016. This PLNTM gives information of timings for the air displays and traffic control, and directs mariners accordingly.

3. Timetable

Sat 25 Jun

1645 - 1730 Air Display Area closed to all vessels
1700 - 1725 AFD Air Display

Sun 26 Jun

1300 – 1400 Air Display Area closed to all vessels
1300 – 1315 Red Devils Parachute Display
1315 – 1400 AFD Air Display
1450 – 1600 Air Display Area closed to all vessels
1500 – 1600 AFD Air Display


4. Air Display Area. The area as shown on the chart extract at Annex A:

a. Air Display Area - An area in front of The Hoe bounded by Fisher’s Nose, the root of Mountbatten Breakwater, Dunstone Point, Drake’s Island and Western King Point.

b. No vessel shall remain within the air dispaly area in Plymouth Sound and Cobbler Channel either underway or at anchor during the times listed above.

5. Spectator areas

a. Spectators afloat may view the displays clear of the activated area.

b. Official steward craft will patrol the area boundaries and invite spectators or other craft to remain clear of the Air Display Area. Steward craft will display a blue flag.

c. Policing craft will direct vessels that ignore the stewards’ invitation to remain clear of the display area. Mariners are reminded that failure to comply with official direction by the Officers of the Queen’s Harbour Master, which includes MOD Police Officers, Cattewater Harbour Master, and Sutton Harbour Lock keepers, may result in prosecution.

6. Vessel Traffic Control

a. All mariners are to note and observe the restrictions on movement in the paragraphs below.

b. During Armed Forces Days mariners wishing to proceed from the Plym, Sutton Harbour, and the Cattewater to seaward of the Air Display Area are advised to do so in sufficient time before access to the Sound is suspended. Similarly during the displays vessels will be unable to enter the Cattewater from seaward. Access will be strictly controlled by Longroom Port Control and the Official Steward Craft.

c. Throughout the displays, access to/from seaward for small craft to/from the Hamoaze and River Tamar is permitted passing through The Bridge channel. Vessels wishing to move to and from Millbay and King Point Marinas will only be allowed to do so outside of the times stated at para 4 above.
