Cardiovascular Training

An essential component of fitness that maintains overall health, fitness and operational readiness, CV training develops the heart, lungs and cardio respiratory system through varying levels of intensity.

What We Mean by CV Training

Cardiovascular (CV) training can be categorised as any activity that promotes and elicits developmental adaptation of the heart, lungs and cardiovascular (or cardio) respiratory transport chain. It's aerobic exercise, which can vary from low to high intensity workouts, all of which are dependant primarily on the aerobic energy generating process.

Aerobic means "relating to, involving, or requiring free oxygen". It refers to the use of oxygen to adequately meet energy demands during exercise via aerobic metabolism.

The videos coming soon on this page will provide greater information on the cardio system and what it means for you and your workouts.

The ABC of CV training

Activities promoting cardio-respiratory development include:

  • Circuit training
  • High Intensity Training Workouts (HIT)
  • High Intensity Interval Training Workouts (HIIT)

Sports such as rowing, Nordic (Cross-Country) skiing and squash require a high level of aerobic capacity, while many items of gym equipment seen today deliver great results.
