IFAC2 NEARSHORE BOULDER REMOVAL BETWEEN CHILLING AND DAEDALUS

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN jointly by the Queen’s Harbour Master Portsmouth and the Harbour Master, ABP Southampton, that boulder removal works will take place between Chilling and Daedalus as part of the IFAC2 Interconnector Project.  Pre-operations survey works will take place 14-15 August. The works are planned to commence by 21 August with expected completion in UK waters by 30 September 2018.

2. The UK nearshore area is located between Chilling Brownwich and Daedalus. An overview of the nearshore area is shown in chartlet below.

3. The Boulder Removal marine works are being carried out by BRIGGS (BMC) using the following vessels/Barges:

  • Solent Guardian (MMSI 235096443; Call Sign 2GDK7) shallow draft survey vessel using a Multi Beam Echo Sounder (MBES).
  • Forth Trojan (MMSI 235095311; Call Sign 2FYM4) tug vessel as tow and anchor handler for the barge.
  • Harry McGill (Call Sign GYRU) crane barge as the dive support platform from which to undertake shallow water boulder clearance.
  • CRC Lodestar (MMSI 232014126; Call Sign MCQS8) RIB type transfer vessel for conducting crew transfer operations from shore to the barge and as a guard vessel where needed.

4.  Vessels are requested to pass at a safe speed and distance from the vessels involved in the works (approximately 600 metres) and fishing vessels are advised to remain a safe distance (approximately 300m) from the areas identified. Vessels may be restricted in ability to manoeuvre while undertaking the works, and will display the appropriate signals from the COLREGS accordingly.  The vessels will monitor VHF Channel 12 and 16 at all times.  Flag Alpha will be displayed at all times when diving operations are underway.

5. The Boulder Removal Works cover the route clearance of the shallow water areas of the project, between Chilling and Daedalus. Pre operations surveys will be carried out by the “Solent Guardian” from the 14 to 15 August 2018 and repeated on completion of the removal works.
