UNDERWATER ROV AND TOWED SUBMERSIBLE SURVEYS - EASTERN SOLENT 30 Oct - 30 Nov 2017

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN jointly by the Queen's Harbour Master Portsmouth and ABP Southampton that as part of the IFAC2 survey works (see QHM Portsmouth’s LNTM 50/17), additional survey works will take place using an underwater Remotely Operated Vessel (ROV) and a towed submersible body in vicinity of the main shipping channels extending from south-west of Fort Gilkicker to the east of Nab Tower.  The ROV operations will take place in the areas depicted by red circles below, while the towed submersible survey will take place along the route between the indicated points.

2. The ROV will be operated near the seabed on a tether of up to 50 metres from the 84 metre survey vessel IEVOLI COBALT.  The submersible survey equipment will be towed behind  the 18 metre coastal survey vessel SOLENT GUARDIAN.

3. Both vessels will be considered to be Restricted in Ability to Manoeuvre while undertaking their survey operations and as such, mariners are reminded of their responsibilities under the COLREGS and are requested to remain well clear and to give a wide berth while passing.   Both vessels will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channels 11 (QHM Harbour Control) and 12 (VTS Southampton) throughout.  QHM and VTS can be contacted over VHF or by calling 023 9272 3694 (QHM) or 023 8048 8800 (VTS).
