Overview

1. Mariners are advised that the Queen’s Harbour Master Clyde has made the following General Direction under the Clyde Dockyard Port of Gareloch and Loch Long Order 2011.

2. The Queen’s Harbour Master (QHM) Clyde directs that any linesmen and boatmen operating within the jurisdiction of Clyde Dockyard Port (CDP) are to be trained in line handling duties to a suitable standard (e.g.; Efficient Deck Hand level).  In addition, boatmen are to be trained in boat handling skills with MCA accredited Boatman courses.  All equipment used is to be maintained to a national standard, i.e. line boats will need to conform to the regulations in Reference B.

Remote berths

3. At Garelochhead (South) and (North) berths and the ammunitioning facility at Glen Mallan, line boat operations are contracted to the Gareloch Support Services (GSS), whose employees are suitably qualified and experienced  and should adhere to References A and B.

4. At Finnart, Briggs Marine are contracted in line handling duties in accordance with References A and B

Visiting vessels

5. Any operators / vessels entering the area who intend to carry out their own line handling operations are to inform the Harbour Planning Manager (on 01436 674321 Ext 6678) in advance and supply suitable evidence of training for their linesmen.

6. QHM reserves the right to ask to sight evidence of compliance from relevant operators.

7. This General Direction will be reviewed by 10 Jan 22.
