DESIGN AND BUILD LESSON

HMS OARDACIOUS CHALLENGE

The Atlantic Challenge sees the crew of HMS Oardacious join about 30 other teams traversing the 3,000 miles of the North Atlantic from the Canary Island of La Gomera to the Caribbean idyll of Antigua, and the rowing vessel is an impressive piece of kit. Designed for hardcore ocean rowing, it is 28ft in length with no home comforts. Two 6ft cabins for sleep are all the crew can look forward to for rest. Powered only by strength, grit and determination, the three solar panels are only to power to communications and water filtration systems.

In this lesson, your learners will understand more about the challenges in designing and building an ocean-going rowing vessel.
