NAVYfit hosts first Community Sports Festival in Portsmouth

Storyline: NavyFit

The inaugural Community Sports Festival was held at HMS Temeraire to give Portsmouth students a taste of sport in the Royal Navy.

The aim of the Recruit and Attract initiative was to give students within the Portsmouth Region an insight into the sporting opportunities available to service personnel within the Royal Navy.

The festival took place on Wednesday 11 October and invited schools and colleges from the area to participate in a variety of sessions run by Royal Navy Sports Associations.

The schools and colleges in attendance got a tour of the facilities at HMS Temeraire and then had the opportunity to try out the available sports and speak to the career advisors from various Royal Navy branches including, Submariners, Royal Marines Band, Engineers and Medical.

Sports Associations were able to exhibit their sport and give students an insight into the vast range of sports offered and how they work alongside a career in the Royal Navy. Sports included, football, tennis, boxing and spinning.

The festival was a success and the teams look to host further festivals to engage the community and promote a career in the Royal Navy to the next generation.
