A busy week of sport for The Western Region

The Western Region have had an action-packed week of sport, holding their Volleyball Competition and Badminton Championships.

The Western Region Badminton Championships took place at HMS RALEIGH on 25th Oct 23. There were 18 entries in total comprising of both trained strength and Phase 2 personnel. 

The competition was played in a Cup/Plate style tournament resulting in 2 separate winners. 

The deserved winner of the Cup remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament was AB Glanville, beating Slt Jackson in the final 2-0. 

Lt Hetherington was victorious in the plate final beating AB O’Donnell 2-0, only losing to the overall winner in AB Glanville. 
 
The event was enjoyable for both staff and competitors alike, with details taken by the Badminton association for players ahead of the upcoming Inter Services Championships.

The Western Region Volleyball competition was held at HMS Drake Wyvern Centre with teams from within the HMNB(D) and Raleigh supported by the PT Staff.

The event was overseen by 2 VIP’s, the Royal Navy head coaches LT Cdr Rex and LT Cdr Bonner. 

The event was well received by all that attended and saw key players stand out, such as LET Northcott and LPT Hussell.

The next event for Western Region Volleyball will be the Inter-Regions held in Q1 of next year ready for trials to the RN Team selection.
