HMS Duncan heads to Italy for Exercise Med Wolf

Storyline: Adventurous Training

In June, 82 Ranks from HMS Duncan participated in Ex Med Wolf, a 5-day Adventurous Training and sporting package whilst docked in Taranto, Italy.

The ship’s company experienced stand up paddleboarding, outdoor rock climbing as well as fishing and golf. All activities were enjoyed in the beautiful scenery of Taranto and surrounding areas.

LH(POL) Cherrington loved trying stand up paddle boarding and said: “ I was fortunate enough to undergo stand-up paddle board training.

“This experience enabled members of the Ship’s Company some well-earned down time as well as having some fun in the Italian sunshine.

“The location was beautiful and the activity was run professionally by the DRU AT staff who were extremely friendly and relaxed.

“I felt extremely lucky to have been given this opportunity”.

The climbing crags in the local area provided a welcome and popular challenge. One of the ships company WOWE Paul Harris said, “After going over the safety equipment we took it in turns to climb and belay each other. We soon moved on to more challenging climbs in the afternoon that really pushed us both physically and mentally.

“The rock climbing day was a great way to carry out AT as you work in teams, have to trust each other and it puts you in challenging positions to problem solve your way up a rock face.”
