Royal Marine George Crotty won gold at the GeeBee boxing tournament in Finland this weekend, for the second year in a row.

George flew out to Helsinki to compete in the 41st International Gee Bee boxing tournament as part of the Great British Boxing squad last week.

A record number of 140 boxers competed in the tournament, which is a memorial competition to remember Gunnar Baerlund, Finland’s heavyweight European Champion from 1934.

Eleven Great British boxers left Finland with medals, including two bronzes, four silvers and George one of five to take home a gold.

After an impressive semi-final fight against Canada’s Karl Deloys, George cruised into the finals with a unanimous victory to face Estonia’s Anton Vinogradov.

Controlling the cruiserweight (86kg) final, George successfully secured the final gold medal for Great Britain.

It is not the first time George has won big at the Gee Bee either, with 2023 marking the second year in row he has been crowned champion at the competition, after beating the host nation’s Nikita Nystedt on the final day of the competition in 2022.

George said, “I’m really happy to get the gold again this year, and it feels good to prove it was not just a lucky year last year.”

Looking to keep the momentum going, George is now aiming to fight again next month in the International Elite Boxing Tournament Grand Prix.

“I’m hoping to get straight back out to the Grand Prix after showing I’m fight fit and ready.”

The Great British Boxing Squad will then be looking ahead to the Feliks Stamm International Boxing Tournament at the end of May and on to the European Games in June. With George hoping to play a role in all three events, watch this space.
