HMS Sultan joins in International Women’s Day

Personnel from across HMS Sultan came together recently to show their support for an equal world and International Women’s Day.

The day celebrates the achievements of women, aims to raise awareness against bias and encourages everyone to take action for equality.

Chief Petty Officer Lorry Osman, one of the Royal Naval Air Engineering and Survival Equipment School’s Professional Divisional Officers responsible for supporting and inspiring engineering trainees, said: “I’ve had a brilliant time since I joined the Royal Navy 22.5 years ago. Some things have changed over this time, but I’ve always felt supported to be my best.

"I’d waited nine years before I actually joined the RN and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. I’ve enjoyed a fantastic career in Air engineering with lots of opportunities, including playing women’s rugby.

"I help out at STEM events with the Royal Navy when I can and try and get females involved with engineering. A lot of the girls will look at engineering and shy away, thinking it’s not for them, but really enjoy it when they give it a go.

"I am proud to show my support for International Women’s Day and to help encourage girls to believe anything is possible.”
