The Wrenegades take on the Women's Championship Leaders

Storyline: Rugby League

Head Coach LAET Matt Bayliss took his Royal Navy Rugby League squad north last week ahead of a friendly against current Women's Championship Leaders Dewsbury Moor. The training camp prior to the match was a major step up in preparations for September's Inter Services series.

As well as RNRL squad training the week's programme included an invaluable day with the Leeds Rhinos Women.

The day started with a tour of the world famous Headingley stadium before moving to the Rhinos training facility where the hard work began. The training saw the Wrenegades join the current Super League Champions producing a high intensity effort with a great reaction from both teams in the session watched over by Rhinos head coach Lois Forsell.

All involved with the Wrenegades are very grateful to the Leeds club, Lois Forsell and all involved on the day for the opportunity to access the Rhinos facilities as well as train alongside probably the top side in the Women's Super League.

The week continued with two more days of training before a ‘rest day’ on Saturday which saw the squad travel to Hull and the KCM stadium to watch the Super League clash between Hull FC and the Catalan Dragons.

Sunday was game day and the Wrenegades travelled to West Yorkshire to face the Dewsbury Moor women who, as previously mentioned, are current Women's Championship Leaders and as such train together a couple of times a week and have weekly fixtures.

It was always going to be a tough game for the Wrenegades who nonetheless gave it their all and were not disgraced.

AB Abi Ashby got her side on the score sheet with a try but the home side took the game 44-4. Dewsbury Moor used all their experience and match fitness to take the game away from the Wrenegades who competed well throughout the game.

Despite the scoreline, overall Coach Bayliss was pleased with how the week went for the squad with more new faces joining established players in the line up.
