Royal Marine Taylor Lawrence has won a silver medal alongside Brad Hall, Greg Cackett and Arran Gulliver representing Great Britain in the four-man bobsleigh team at the World Championships in St Moritz, Switzerland.

The team produced four brilliant runs finishing in joint second place with the Latvian team, both clocking a time of 4:20:30. A valiant performance from both teams but not quite enough to stop Francesco Friedrich from scooping his fifth consecutive World Championships title with the German team, taking the gold medal in a time of 4:19:61.

Taylor said “Being so close to Friedrich for that gold medal just shows the class and calibre we have got on the team. This is the first year of the Olympic cycle, we’re going to be developing as push athletes and Brad is going to continue to develop as a driver, the sky really is the limit for us.”

The silver medal rounds off a brilliant run of events which includes multiple World Cup medals, including the team’s first European Championship gold two weeks ago and is Britain’s first World Championship medal since 1939.

Taylor said “It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions over the weekend. If you had asked us in the summer if we would be happy with a silver medal in the World Championships, we would have absolutely bitten your arm off for it, so to go out and deliver that result is hard to put into words. We’re over the moon and I hope we can carry this on for the rest of the season.”
