Rose Dixon leads the Royal Navy women into battle for the second time

Storyline: Rugby Union

The Royal Navy Women’s Rugby Union team are set to head into the historic Inter-Service battle against the Army at Twickenham for the second time under Captain LH Rose Dixon after their long-awaited debut last year.

The women’s teams were only introduced onto the field at Twickenham for their legendary Inter-Service game last year when the Royal Navy and Army went head-to-head on the same ground as the men for the first time in history.

Women’s captain, LH Rose Dixon said, “One of our biggest achievements as a team was last season when we got to run out on Twickenham for the first time. The atmosphere was crazy. While we are used to playing at Kneller Hall, in the morning on Army Navy Day we were able to run out and experience exactly what the men do.”

Attracting more the 80,000 spectators, the home of English rugby will play host to the final fixtures of the Inter-Service competition once again to determine the winners of the Babcock trophy, and the Royal Navy women are looking to make a comeback.

After just falling short in their first match against the Royal Air Force last month and losing out on the title last year, the women will be putting up a real fight against the Army.

LH Rose Dixon, has been playing rugby union for ten years, five of those have been alongside her Royal Navy colleagues as part of the team.

Rose said, “The support we get is something that you would not necessarily get on the outside, it’s one of the huge benefits of Royal Navy rugby and it really shows in how far we have come as a team since last year.”

The Navy women’s team has come a long way to get onto a level playing field with the men at Twickenham and will be bringing their A Game next month, hoping to make their mark in the history books once again.

Rose said, “In my humble opinion, Army Navy is the best day of the year. Even before I joined the military that was the big day in the calendar. Everyone is there to support rugby, to support the military and it is just so much fun. I highly recommend getting down to watch it!”

Proceeds from the fixtures go to the Royal Navy and Army Rugby Union Trusts and tickets are available for both civilians and serving personnel for the family friendly event.
