Rule and Regulations

Personal Watercraft can be used in the Dockyard Port of Gareloch and Loch Long, however their use is limited and the following craft / activities are prohibited by the Dockyard Port Order 2011.

  • Water Skiing
  • Jet Skiing
  • Windsurfing
  • Parascending

Windsurfing is permitted in specific areas and these are detailed in QHM’s General Direction 13-18 (Windsurfing, Swimming, Parascending, Water Skiing and Jet-skiing).

Swimming underwater and Diving

As detailed in the Dockyard Port Order 2011 and QHM’s General Direction 13/18, swimming is regulated as follows in the Dockyard Port:

Otherwise than in accordance with a written permission granted by the Queen's Harbour Master, no person shall swim either on the surface or underwater:

  1. within 200 metres of the walls, slipways or boundaries of a Crown Establishment;
  2. within 250 metres of any of Her Majesty’s vessels; or
  3. where anchorage is prohibited.
