Families day at HMS Sultan

An action-packed afternoon of fun was enjoyed by all recently at the HMS Sultan Families Day.

Face painting, go karts and laser quest were just some of the many varied activities on offer, with magic shows, a live band and barbecue all providing fantastic entertainment.

The Families Day is an annual event which is enjoyed by personnel from across HMS Sultan and their invited guests. As an aside, the Day also offers personnel and their families an opportunity to learn about the support available to them from Service charities and organisations.

Event organiser, Leading Physical Trainer Will Ballanger said: “We’ve worked really hard to make sure that there is a really good mix of things to enjoy.”

“We’ve got bouncy castles, falconry displays, a petting zoo, Laser Clay Pigeon Shooting and more. It’s really good after putting it all together to see everyone having so much fun.”

HMS Sultan is the Royal Navy’s primary engineering training Establishment, which delivers training to both Officers and Ratings.

The Establishment is home to the Headquarters of the Defence College of Technical Training (DCTT), which includes the Defence School of Marine Engineering (DSMarE) and the Royal Naval Air Engineering and Survival Equipment School (RNAESS) and a number of additional lodger units.

The Commanding Officer of HMS Sultan, Captain Peter Towell said: “Families Day provides us with an excellent opportunity to recognise and reward all of our personnel for their hard work and tireless commitment, and to welcome their families into HMS Sultan.”

“As well as ensuring that we perform to the very highest of standards within training delivery, our personnel continue to apply themselves to extra tasks such as serving the local community at our Summer Show, or promoting engineering to young people as part of ‘The Year of Engineering’ with great enthusiasm.”

“I am extremely proud of everything that has been achieved so far this year and am delighted we can welcome in our closest friends and family and thank them for all their support.”
