Big-hearted sailors to ride from London to Brighton for charity

A team from HMS Collingwood’s Underwater Warfare Training Element (UWTE) will cycle from London to Brighton in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

Team “Warspite Warriors”, aka Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Robbie Doyle, CPO Adam Hearn, Petty Officer (PO) Steven Alford, PO Timothy Mallett and CPO Stuart Flack, will be undertaking the punishing ride on Sunday 18th June to raise both funds and awareness of the charity in memory of family members.

Leaving London at around 0730, the team aim to arrive in Brighton at around 1430 after a gruelling ride over challenging terrain.

Robbie said, “We decided to embark on the charity ride to challenge ourselves whilst raising awareness and money for the British Heart Foundation. After many long rides we believe we are ready to meet the demands of this challenge whilst promoting a team spirit and camaraderie to all those taking part.

"We are now looking forward to starting on Sunday and hope that this is the start of many future rides for the UWTE cycling team – Warspite Warriors!"

Although PO Mallett has experience of long-distance rides, the London-to-Brighton provides the other team members with their introduction to long-distance cycling, a challenge they are eager to embrace after many training hours spent tackling the terrain local to Collingwood.
