1000 mile cyclists arrive at HMS Raleigh

With 930 miles behind them a team of cyclists from Royal Navy Royal Marines Welfare (RNRMW) stopped off at HMS Raleigh today (Thursday 29 September) for breakfast cooked by trainee chefs.

The team are now on the last leg of a 1,000 mile journey, which started in Arbroath 10 days ago. 

Since then the team have visited welfare offices across the UK raising awareness of the support that RNRMW provides to Naval Service personnel and their families, while also gratefully accepting donations for the Royal Navy and Royal Marine Children’s Fund.

Along the way the team of three cyclists and two support crew have met four Lord Mayors, fixed  three punctures, ridden through torrential downpours and a mini Scottish heatwave, plus they have stayed and had the keys to Carlisle Castle for the night.

Leaving HMS Raleigh to head off to their final destination, the Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, Chief Petty Officer Neil Ingram, a member of the RNRMW team, said: “With the finish point almost in sight, the #RNRMW1000 team are both tired and elated after what has been an epic adventure for a team of riders who are relative novices to the sport.”
