A Chief Petty Officer (CPO) from HM Naval Base Clyde has received a prestigious award for his “wealth of knowledge” and “drive” in the field of weapon engineering.
CPO Martin Rowley, who works with HMNB Clyde’s Superintendent Fleet Maintenance (SFM) organisation, was presented with the Rear Admiral Beatson Prize during a ceremonial event at HMS Collingwood at Hampshire.
The prize, which is named after the Rear Admiral tasked with implementing the Electrical Branch in 1946, is presented to the Weapon Engineer who has made the most significant contribution to Operational Capability, innovation, engineering excellence and Branch development over the last 12 months.
Chief Rowley’s citation reads: “With a wealth of knowledge that incorporates sensors, weapons, command systems, communication equipment and the Seafox Mine Disposal System, he has shown he is unmatched in his output and across a broad remit.
"His drive, professionalism, enthusiasm for Royal Navy engineering and personal resilience have directly contributed to numerous units’ Operational Capability and enabled meeting very taut Force Regeneration timelines.”
Mr Barry Brooks from The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and Mr Alec Bateson, the son of Rear Admiral Bateson, were on hand to present the prize to CPO Rowley.
The Real Admiral Beatson award was created to cover all ranks and rates from the Weapon Engineering (WE) sub-Branch (General Service and Submarines). The award is sponsored by the IET and consists of a cheque for £300, a certificate and trophy.
The winners also have their names immortalised on the honours board at HMS Collingwood.
