Sultan civilian training staff help with Christmas

HMS Sultan Training Planning Staff put their organisational skills to good use recently in order to show their support for the Gosport and Fareham Basics Bank.

The staff employed by Babcock organised the collection of food and toiletries in the lead up to Christmas.

The response was overwhelming with many people from around Sultan kindly donating a variety of luxury food items and toiletries.

Knowing that there are a number of families with small children using the service, Training Planning also collected Advent Calendars which were donated before the start of December to help bring a smile to some of those children.

The food bank provides food parcels containing enough items to last a family in crisis for a week. In the last 12 months they have provided help for 3200 people in the local area.

As they are a voluntary run charity they rely heavily on donations throughout the year.

Course Booker, Laura Belbin said: “We know there are a lot of families living locally who just make do and go without at this time of year, so we decided to do a collection to help those families.”

“The response has been great, we’ve had lots of people coming in from all different areas to donate, so it’s been brilliant and at the beginning of December a couple of us took in the Advent Calendars that we had been collecting and we told them that we would be back in with some of the food that we’ve been collecting.”

Training Manager Lisa Down said: “The whole team have got involved with organising the collection and we’ve also had support from individuals from across the Site, it’s brought lots of different people together.”

“Lots of people have come in and contributed and every week we’ve been receiving something new.”

“There’s a lot of food there which will make a lot of difference to families which is really good”
