High tea for Culdrose Fire Fighters

Children from The Military Kids Club (MKC) of Helston Community College were on their best behaviour as they served up a ‘High Tea’ to Naval Fire Fighters at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose.

Every year the MKC formerly known as HMS Heroes, like to do something around Christmas, in a way of a thank you to the Armed Forces.

In previous years they have made fudge, which was then packed up inside Christmas Care Packages, and sent to deployed Culdrose Units around the Globe.

“Last year they organised a Spa day,” said Teresa Robson, Overseer of Helston‘s Community College MKC.

“This year they decided they wanted to do something for Culdrose’s Fire Station.

“Obviously, its manned 24/7, so they miss-out on many of their own family festivities. The Children have been brilliant and come up with an idea to serve them High Tea at the Fire Station.”

MKC Heroes supports children who have parents and family members in the Military.

Many of the children have parents who work at the West Cornwall Fleet Air Arm Base and some are even away over December, on operations with the Royal Navy this year.

“We thought about all the sacrifices everyone here makes over the Christmas period,” said Rosie Thomas, whose father Steve is away in the Middle East.

“So we thought we would throw a little bit of Christmas cheer to those here at Culdrose.

“I think we just want to say: Happy Christmas to everyone!”

MKC Heroes (Formally HMS Heroes) is a national support group for the children of Service men and women and their relatives.

A tri-Service network of after-school clubs, MKC Heroes brings together members of Service families aged between 3 and 18 years old from all over the country.

Members are ambassadors and young advocates for Service families across the United Kingdom, and most importantly, they are friends who are there for each other, especially in times of need.

We just want to say: Happy Christmas to everyone!
