Phase 2 trainees compete at annual It’s a Christmas Knockout

The annual Phase 2 It’s a Knockout competition saw over 200 trainees from HMS Collingwood join forces to compete against one another and win the overall prize, whilst having fun and entering into the Christmas spirit.

The event saw a variety of Christmas themed stances laid out for the teams, including ‘Advent Dash’ where sailors had to get from one end of the track to the other avoiding the challenges of a strategically positioned Physical Training Instructor (PTI), ‘12 Days of Christmas’, where a fit ball was used to bounce up and down a route, with teams collecting gifts as they went, and of course not forgetting the ‘Carol singing’ stance.

As all participants gathered in the establishment’s Gymnasium which had been decorated especially for the occasion, as the afternoon full of festive fun began, giving the PT staff the opportunity to give something back to the trainees for all their hard work during the year.

With a total of twelve teams competing, the overall winners were Team 2 who were presented with special Christmas gifts by Commanding Officer, Captain Andy Jordan ADC Royal Navy.

Leading Physical Trainer Aaron Snowdon, one of the LPTI’s running the event said, “this year’s Christmas It’s a Knockout seemed to be really enjoyed by all the Phase 2 Trainees. It’s a great chance for the department to host and deliver something different.

“It’s been an experience organising and delivering the event. Events like this are paramount, not only for team bonding but to 'up' the morale of the ships and trainees after all the hard work they put in at HMS Collingwood. I can only hope the event was enjoyed by all.”
