Clyde Naval Base raises Cash for Kids during Christmas Jumpers to Work Day

Kind-hearted personnel at HM Naval Base Clyde have raised £1,500 for charity Cash for Kids after holding a Wear Your Christmas Jumper to Work Day event.

Hundreds at the military site swapped their uniforms for Festive finery, sporting a variety of cheesy Christmas jumpers for the good cause. 

On December 8, Clyde One DJs George Bowie and Cassi Gillespie visited the Naval Base to pick up the cheque and meet some of the sailors, marines and civilian workers who took part.

“Cash for Kids is a fantastic cause and everyone really got behind the efforts to raise money,” said organiser Lieutenant McInnes from Faslane-based vessel HMS Victorious.  “The total so far is brilliant, but money is still coming in so we’re hopeful of reaching the £2,000 mark.”

He continued: “Personnel at both Faslane and Coulport dug deep and donated their spare change over the past two-weeks for the privilege of wearing their Christmas jumper to work.

"I’d like to thank everyone who contributed and especially Warrant Officer Hutchison and his team, Petty Officer Foxcroft and Jodie Adams for their assistance collecting money.  Big thanks to the Naval Base Commander too for giving us permission to be out of uniform today.”

Naval Base workers were asked to donate a minimum of £1 in order to be able to wear their Christmas jumpers.  The event has previously been held at Clyde back in 2014 with a total of £1,140 raised on that occasion.

The Cash for Kids money will be used to provide gifts for children who otherwise would not be fortunate enough to receive a present this Christmas.
