What we do

KHM is responsible for the Protection of the Port, which means the preservation of life, protection of the environment, protection of property and the continuity of the business within the port whilst overseeing MoD primacy within the port.

KHM acts as the Statutory Harbour, Pilotage and Lighthouse Authority for the Dockyard Port of Plymouth, with local legislative powers provided by public statute. KHM is responsible for the navigational safety and traffic regulation of all vessels bound to and from the Dockyard Port of Plymouth including Cattewater Harbour, ABP Millbay and Sutton Harbour.

Traffic regulations

All vessels, over 20m in length, arriving or sailing from the Dockyard Port of Plymouth are to report to KHM’s Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) on VHF Ch.14

The reporting  procedures are set out in Schedule 1 Part 2  of the Dockyard Port of Plymouth Order 2020. Further details can also be found in Admiralty List of Radio Signals Volume 6.
