Royal Marines display their pedigree at Crufts

Royal Marines musicians displayed their pedigree at the world’s top dog show at the weekend.

Eight members of the Fareham-based Royal Marines Band Collingwood played two fanfares during the final awards presentation at Crufts.

One of the trumpeters – Band Colour Sergeant Gareth Keachie - composed the first 30-second fanfare, called Diamond.

The musicians played to open the ceremony at the Birmingham NEC and returned three hours later to perform at the overall Best In Show presentation.

Warrant Officer Nev Dednum, who led the team, said: “We were delighted and privileged to perform at such a high-profile event which was being broadcast live on television.

“Buglers and musicians within the Royal Marines Band Service get to play at some fantastic occasions and at some wonderful locations across the world.

“The Royal Marines Band Service has played at Crufts for several years and it is always an enjoyable event where we get a great reaction from the audience.”

The other team members were Band Sergeant Dave McEnnerey, Band Corporal Georgina Robertson and Musicians Nick Bailey, Andy O’Neil, Sam Pearson and John Walker.
