New Governor and Commander-in-Chief arrives in Gibraltar

The new Governor of Gibraltar, Lieutenant General Edward Davis CB, CBE, has arrived in Gibraltar onboard RFA Mounts Bay.

To formally mark his arrival soldiers from the Royal Gibraltar Regiment fired a 17-Gun Salute.

The new Governor was then introduced to civilian and military dignitaries including Commander British Forces, Commodore Ian McGhie, before heading to the Swearing-in-Ceremony.

After Receiving the Keys the new Governor left parliament and inspected the Royal Gibraltar Regiment Guard of Honour before walking through Main Street to take his place in the Convent.

Lt Gen Davis served as Commandant General Royal Marines between 2011 and 2014 and was Commander 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines from 2010 to 2011.

RFA Mounts Bay deployed from the UK earlier this month and will operate in the Mediterranean over coming months providing a continuous amphibious capability in the region while exercising with partner nations.
