QEC Engineers assist local Sea Cadets

Engineers from the Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carriers recently conducted major renovation work at TS Caledonia, Sea Cadets in South Queensferry.

The project, arranged through the QEC Royal Naval Engineers’ Quart Club, saw members of the two Aircraft Carrier’s engineering departments taking a very cold, thin walled, drill hall within the Sea Cadets HQ and turning it into a fully insulated room with a new internal ceiling, which will be kitted out with electric sockets and dedicated heaters for multi-use purposes.

Colin Butcher, CO of South Queensferry Sea Cadets said “The support that the members of QEC Ships Company have given us will provide a warm environment for the cadets to use as an internal quarter deck and also as one of the classrooms.  

“In the winter this room was originally the coldest in the building and always colder than the temperature outside.”

The Engineers were assisted by members of the Sea Cadet team and local Joiner, James Benyon, who provided expert advice and tools, to enable the task to run smoothly.

SLt Garry Storey, Honorary Secretary of the QEC RNEQC stated, “The aim of the Royal Naval Engineers’ Quart Club is to provide support and assistance to local groups and charities such as the Sea Cadets. The volunteers from QEC have done a brilliant job in upholding these values.”

The plan is for the room to be decorated and in use prior to Christmas.
