Aims

To train prospective boarding operators to conduct Compliant (L1), Non Compliant (L2) and Opposed (L3) boarding operations and force generate Royal Marines Boarding Teams (RMBT) for embarkation on operational ships.

Course Details

The primary training objective of the RMBC is to train Royal Marines to L3 MIOps in accordance with BRd 1920 RN Boarding Operations . The over-arching training objectives are:

  • To teach, revise and practice boarding techniques, including low vertical access (LVA) and high vertical access (HVA), onto varying size vessels during both day and night
  • To teach safe practices of the special-to-role weapon systems, in particular the L119A1 5.56mm C8 Rifle, the L131A1 Glock 17 Pistol and L74 Remington Combat Shotgun
  • To teach Maritime CQB and revise RM CQB to PW2 CQBI standard
  • To teach, revise and practice maritime CASEVAC procedures and systems
  • To study Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIOps) in order to practice and test commanders in estimate and orders in a maritime environment
  • To teach and practice the use of Manual Methods of Entry (MMoE) and Explosive Method of Entry (EMoE)
  • To give all students an appreciation of hazards and risks associated with Boarding Operations
  • To teach correct methods of equipment care of all boarding equipment
  • To follow the Fast Roping progression of training, to include practical and assessment

Requirements

Pre training will be conducted to better prepare ranks for the RMBC and maintain a safe system of work. As part of prerequisites week 1, students will need to undertake conversion to the C8 and successfully pass an ACMT.

  • C8 lessons 1-7; Practice period 1-2
  • Weapons Handling Test (WHT) - L119A1 C8, L131A1 Glock 17
  • Battle Swimming Test (BST)
  • Royal Marines Fitness test (RMFT)

Post Course Recommendations

Once ranks have completed the course they will return to their sub-units for continuation training to ensure that they remain deployable for global operations. Should ranks fail elements of the course they will be offered the opportunity to return on the next course.

Royal Marines Boarding Course (RMBC) (Opposed)

The RMBC is an 8-week course that allows 42 Cdo RM to generate and sustain its directed MIOps trained workforce to support deployable RMBTs. This enables sub-units to force-generate, deploy and recover detachments for enduring operations whilst maintaining force elements at readiness to meet further task requests by Fleet.
