HMS Collingwood gets in the 'Red Nose' spirit

Staff at HMS Collingwood pushed the boat out to raise money for Comic Relief recently.

Leading Physical Trainer (LPT) Amanda Billingham organised a grand cake sale in the Base’s Sports and Recreation Centre selling goodies to sweet-toothed staff and students.

Local supermarkets Tesco, Waitrose, Marks & Spencer and Sainsbury’s all donated cakes for the sale, whilst the remainder were made by the PT staff who were only too keen to show off their baking prowess.

LPT Billingham said, “It’s all to help raise money for Comic Relief because it’s a really good cause.”

The cake sale raised £218.00.

Elsewhere on the base, Babcock members of staff employed in the ITSC department donned fancy dress and held a bring and buy sale to raise money for the cause.

Organiser Hayley Packer, dressed for the day as the Queen of Hearts, said they normally carry out at least one fund-raising event per year and the team have raised over £3,000 for various causes since September 2012.

Sherlock Holmes, aka Alan Hitchcock, admitted that most of his outfit came from his normal wardrobe and said, “Comic Relief is a very worthy cause and this is all about collecting money for good causes.”

Steve Matthews, dressed as Superman agreed, saying of Red Nose Day, “This is a bit of a laugh and you get to eat cakes!”

The team here raised £146.06.
