HMS Collingwood puts best foot forward for charity Zumbathon

Energetic personnel from HMS Collingwood recently undertook sessions of the high-energy workout to raise money for Breast Cancer Research.

The Base’s gym at the Sports and Recreation Centre rang to the sound of high-tempo Latin American and dance music as civilian and military personnel alike leapt, bounced, lunged and squatted, displaying varying degrees of skill but always maximum enthusiasm.

Some participants chose to wear something pink although LPT (Leading Physical Trainer) Daniel Appleby opted to perform his workout dressed in a full bee-keeping outfit!

The event was organised by LPT Amanda Billingham who explained “We decided to do Zumba as it’s a fun activity that not many people have been exposed to and it would appeal to all ages and encourage maximum participation.”

The positive feedback she received from this event has meant that Zumba sessions may become a regular feature of the Base’s sports routines in future.

LPT Craig Bryant-Coltman commented, “It was a fun filled afternoon, harder than I thought and I definitely got a good workout from it.”

AB Thomas Seymour added, “As a male I was sceptical at first, but absolutely loved it and can’t wait for the next one.”

Thanks to the participants putting so much into their work-outs, the event finally raised £250 for Breast Cancer Research.
