Interserve team give a day of their time

Recently personnel from HMS Collingwood and HMS Sultan came together to make-over a garden within the grounds of Leesland School in Gosport.

The team, all employed by Interserve, took advantage of the sunny weather to unite for the company’s ‘Give A Day Of Your Time’ initiative.

The scheme allows personnel to give back to their local communities through a day of charitable effort, ranging from gardening and DIY to volunteering and fundraising.

For some of the team members the project was extra special, with their children and even themselves having previously attended the school.

With the team consisting of individuals from various departments of both establishments, they quickly learnt to adapt and utilise each other’s strengths and experience for a successful day.

They spent the day laboriously gardening in the sunshine, tackling overgrown Ivy and weeds in an area at the front of the school.

The challenging day presented itself as a huge achievement for all involved as some of the team had little previous interest or experience within any form of gardening.

Rob Morrow, Reprographics Supervisor at HMS Collingwood, said of the day “It was a fantastic day and a very rewarding experience, we all worked really hard which made the end result very satisfying.

“I was particularly pleased as, in the 1970s, I was a pupil at the school and it was good to return to give a little back and see the huge difference that we had made in one day.

“It was also great to meet up with other members of the Interserve family and get to know them throughout the day resulting in the ‘magnificent seven’ keeping in touch ever since.

“Despite the copious amount of tea, we left feeling tired, achy and accomplished!”
