Charity receives donation from Collingwood’s first ever ‘Race For Life’

Mrs Jayne Bowater of Cancer Research paid a special visit to the Sports and Recreation Centre, HMS Collingwood recently to receive the donation from the establishment’s first ever Race for Life event.

Met by Chief Petty Officer Physical Trainer Jimmy Forwell and Leading Physical Trainer Emma Ochiltree, Mrs Bowater received over £700 raised following the event, held in June with saw 317 military and civilian personnel across site run or walk 5km, raising money and awareness for this worthy charity.

Leading Physical Trainer Ochiltree who organised the event said “The idea was to bring everyone out of their offices and participate in a whole ship evolution, whilst rising awareness about Cancer Research.

“The event was designed for all physical abilities allowing for maximum participation by military, civilian personnel, male and females.

“The atmosphere was buzzing with the Collingwood Royal Marines Band playing for the duration of the race whist also dressed in pink.”
