Medway Division

Medway Division

An integral part of HMS President in London, Medway Division recruits and trains reservists from Kent, SE London and South Essex.

Located in historic Rochester, Medway Division is ideally positioned to attract and train recruits from all over Kent, SE London and South Essex, whilst maintaining the Royal Navy presence in the Medway towns and the link to Chatham Dockyard where HMS Victory was built. This historic connection between the Royal Naval Reserve and Royal Navy in the area was established in 1964 when the forerunner to Medway Division, HMS Wildfire, was commissioned. Closing in 1994, to be replaced by Medway Division, the name HMS Wildfire was then transferred to the Reserve unit located within the UK's operational Defence Headquarters at Northwood in 2000.

Originally located in Chatham, Medway Division moved to a new, purpose-built training facility in the centre of Rochester in 2018, which it shares with the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (PWRR), allowing for the sharing of resources; furthermore, being an integral part of HMS President in London, which is the largest Royal Naval Reserve unit in the country, allows for wider support, training and integration with London colleagues, along with a vibrant sports and social programme.
