Based within the superbly appointed Naval Regional Headquarters, our long association with Merseyside was formally recognised on May 2nd 1993: the unit was awarded the Freedom of Entry into the City of Liverpool.

Unit History

Relationship with Liverpool1904

The RNR’s relationship with Liverpool began in 1904 with the formation of Mersey Division RNVR.

Commander-in-Chief Western Approaches1914

The Division was mobilised in 1914 to form part of the Royal Naval Division, serving at Gallipoli, Vimy ridge, Passchendale and Cambrai. 

First 75 years1972

For her first 75 years, HMS Eaglet was based afloat before moving ashore into a new building at Princes Dock in 1972.

Change of Headquarters1998

In 1998, HMS Eaglet shifted to its present location – the Royal Navy Regional Headquarters, a purpose-built centre in the heart of Liverpool’s reborn docklands.
