Medway Division

An integral part of HMS President in London, Medway Division recruits and trains reservists from Kent, SE London and South Essex.

Role

Led by Lieutenant Commander Ritchie Wilkinson, and originally located in Chatham, Medway Division moved to a new, purpose-built training facility in the centre of Rochester in 2018.

It shares this with the Princess of Wales‘ Royal Regiment (PWRR), allowing for the sharing of resources; furthermore, being an integral part of HMS President in London, which is the largest Royal Naval Reserve unit in the country, allows for wider support, training and integration with London colleagues, along with a vibrant sports and social programme.

Unit history

1903

The London Division

The London Division was established in 1903 on the 10th of November. Its first training night was held at Fishmongers' Hall. Further training took place on board HMS Buzzard.
1964

HMS Wildfire

A Royal Naval Reserve unit is commissioned as HMS Wildfire in Chatham to support Flag Officer Medway, decommissioning in 1994 after the post Cold War defence review.
2000

Medway Division

Medway Division of HMS President is established in Chatham to build on the Royal Navy’s historic links in the Medway and Kent.
2018

New Location

Medway Division moves to a new purpose built facility in Rochester.
