HMS Eaglet (Liverpool)

HMS Eaglet is the Royal Naval Reserve unit associated with Liverpool.

Role

Led by Commander Judith Barnes, HMS Eaglet in Liverpool is immensely proud to continue the Royal Navy’s long maritime heritage on Merseyside.

Based within the superbly appointed Naval Regional Headquarters, the unit‘s long association with Merseyside was formally recognised on May 2nd 1993 when it was awarded the Freedom of Entry into the City of Liverpool.

Unit history

1904

Relationship with Liverpool

The RNR’s relationship with Liverpool began in 1904 with the formation of Mersey Division RNVR.

1914

Commander-in-Chief Western Approaches

The Division was mobilised in 1914 to form part of the Royal Naval Division, serving at Gallipoli, Vimy ridge, Passchendale and Cambrai.

1972

First 75 years

For her first 75 years, HMS Eaglet was based afloat before moving ashore into a new building at Princes Dock in 1972.

1998

Change of headquarters

In 1998, HMS Eaglet shifted to its present location – the Royal Navy Regional Headquarters, a purpose-built centre in the heart of Liverpool’s reborn docklands.
