Operational Conversion Unit (OCU)

Operational Conversion Unit (OCU)

The OCU is a highly skilled team, established to train and prepare members of the Mine Warfare cadre, both officers and ratings, to safely use autonomous capable systems operated by MTXG.

Role

The OCU is an interim training solution for the transition from Conventional MCM to new Autonomous based MCM solutions. Their goal is to develop and create training documentation and doctrine which will not only deliver today but form the basis of the Mine Warfare training element for future MCM phase 2/3 training.

Capability

The OCU provides specialist training and operational support to ensure Royal Navy units maintain the highest levels of readiness and compliance. Its core capability lies in delivering doctrine-aligned training and guaranteeing standardisation across squadrons. The team combines oversight, governance, and hands-on instruction to prepare personnel for complex maritime operations.

The OCU enables rapid integration of trained teams into Fleet units, supporting missions on, under, or near Royal Navy vessels worldwide. This ensures operational effectiveness, adaptability, and alignment with MOD policy across all deployed environments.

Crew

The OCU comprises 5 personnel. The team is structured to deliver specialist training and ensure compliance with MOD policy and doctrine. Each member plays a critical role in maintaining operational readiness and supporting MTXG units.

The team ensures smooth oversight of all activities, guarantees training standards, and provides operational planning support. Training is delivered across squadrons to maintain readiness and capability, with a focus on consistency and excellence.
