What We Do

47 Commando (Raiding Group) Royal Marines are the surface manoeuvre experts of the Commando Force, renowned for their expertise in supporting Littoral Strike: one of the four main tenets of the Royal Navy. They excel in deploying a range of different craft to provide a variety of outputs, including surveillance and reconnaissance, offboard systems delivery, insertion and extraction of Commandos and support to Commandos ashore. These capabilities are held within two Raiding Squadrons, which maintain high states of readiness for rapid global deployment.

Training

The Unit also delivers Phase 1, 2 and 3 training, preparing Commandos for amphibious operations, delivering specialist amphibious courses, such as vehicle waterproofing, and training Royal Marines coxswains.

Capabilities

Another key component of the Unit is Logistics Squadron, who provide dedicated engineering support for the maintenance and deployment of a large fleet of vehicles and craft, and can operate from shipping or land, across challenging terrain and in any climate. 47 Commando also has a facility in North Devon, which is home to the Amphibious Trials and Development Wing; this highly specialised wing trials and develops new equipment to optimise the Commando Force for amphibious operations.
