Role
HMS Charger (P292) is part of Coastal Forces Squadron (North), based in HMNB CLYDE. The ship, is operated by a small team of 5 sailors and led by an experienced Lieutenant.
Whilst running out of our home port of HMNB CLYDE. CHARGER welcomes the future of the Royal Navy onboard. The Clyde and the Scottish Hebrides provide an incredible pilotage training ground for future navigators. The maneuverability of a P2000 provides a training platform for berthing and unberthing a twin screwed vessel.
The Clyde is the home to many of the UK’s defence assets. CHAR supports Maritime Clyde Unit escorting high value units through the Clyde. The security high nature of the Clyde has developed a relationship to form between the P2000s, the Boarder Force and the Scottish Police to ensure that vessels of interest that enter the Clyde to not pose a threat to the high value assets. CHARGER takes the role as the Command-and-Control unit whilst coordinating the multi service units to ensure security is kept on the Clyde.
Scotland and the Northeast of the UK get to experience a relatively small amount of interaction with the Royal Navy. The size and freedom of a P2000 make it a fantastic vessel to visit small harbours and ports and invite people on for visits and allows the Royal Navy to attend local events in small towns.
Annually CHARGER will embark on a transit to the Baltics and/or Norway to conduct multinational NATO exercises. This allows integration of multi-dimensional assets such as SUVs, drones and Royal Marines into the NATO exercises whilst developing that ability to work with our NATO partners.
