The Royal Naval Association hosted the traditional board game contest at the Royal Maritime Hotel in Portsmouth, with competitors ranging from 11 to 83.
Uckers, often described as a mix of strategy, luck, and banter, is played on a distinctive board with dice and coloured counters. Known for its competitive spirit and unique terminology, the game has long been a staple in mess decks and naval clubs.
Stan triumphed again after an epic day of head-to-head rivalry, culminating in a rematch with Brent Latham.
“I’ve had a great day and this event is really good fun. I can’t wait for next year,” said Stan, who also won the doubles contest with Alex Cruikshanks, a RM veteran.
Roland Jones, a retired Royal Navy veteran from RNA Street won the first Snake-Eyes prize, and said: “I have had a great day. I really miss this interaction, so the banter and camaraderie here is priceless.”
Andy Christie, National Chairman of the RNA, said uckers wasn’t “just a game” but a “celebration of naval culture”.
He continued: “Uckers brings people together, and today’s championship is a testament to the enduring spirit of the Royal Navy community.”
