Royal Navy Reservists were among the 70 personnel adding military precision to the world’s greatest tennis championships.

Five Royal Marines and 19 sailors (including a couple of submariners in their distinctive black caps) volunteered to support the 2025 Wimbledon Championships which ended last night with Yannik Sinner’s impressive Men’s Singles victory over Carlos Alcaraz.

Beyond the action on court, Wimbledon also showcases a proud partnership with the UK’s Armed Forces, who provide a visible and valued presence at the event each year.

This tri-Service military support includes bolstering security, assisting spectators, and maintaining the smooth running of the championships.

Reservists from HM Ships Dalriada, King Alfred, President and Eaglet volunteered alongside their regular colleagues.

HMS Eaglet’s Warrant Officer 2 Ann Miller-McCaffrey and Warrant Officer 1 Gary Doke represented the Maritime Reserves with professionalism and pride throughout the fortnight. Both Reservists were entrusted with key duties supporting venue security and engaging with the public — all while embracing the opportunity to be part of the vibrant atmosphere that surrounds SW19.

WO2 Miller-McCaffrey said: “It’s a huge honour to wear the uniform at such a high-profile event. Supporting Wimbledon is not only a way to showcase the Royal Navy, but also a brilliant opportunity to meet people from all walks of life — including celebrities like Tom Cruise!”

WO1 Doke added: “This is one of those stand-out experiences you get as a Royal Navy Reservist. You’re part of something special, helping ensure the safety and success of a world-class event.”
