Sailors and marines honoured by The King in end-of-year Honours

Mounted medals
29 December 2025
Twenty-seven sailors and Royal Marines have been honoured by His Majesty The King in his New Year’s Honours’ List.

From the highest military position in the land through some of the longest-serving men and women in the Naval Service who have devoted their lives to public duty, all have an appointment with royalty in recognition of their efforts.

The end-of-year awards are combined with operational honours, acknowledging deeds, actions and commitment on the front line.

Most honours are awarded for longstanding efforts and dedication to the service.

Rear Admiral James Parkin, who retired in November after nearly 30 years’ service, is made a Companion of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath for being one of the driving forces preparing the Royal Navy to face down future threats by embracing technology, crewless systems and new ways of thinking.

As the Director of Navy Develop, the admiral was instrumental in identifying and exploiting opportunity and new technologies, working with industry, allies and partners, inspiring his teams and driving maritime capability developments to prepare for future warfighting.

“I am truly humbled to be appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath, and am honoured that my small part in designing the maritime, littoral and land forces of the future was recognised in this way,” Admiral Parkin said.

“It is testament to the energy and industry of everyone in the Develop Directorate that four years of difficult, unpopular and cutting-edge work has led us to today’s compelling vision of a warfighting hybrid fleet.

“I pay wholehearted tribute to them, my wider colleagues in Defence, and my wonderful family, for everything this exciting honour represents.”
