Captain Jol Woodard, the Commanding Officer of BRNC, and Rear Admiral Wilhelm Tobias Abry, Commandant German Naval Academy Marineschule Mürwik, re-signed the twinning agreement, during Rear Admiral Abry’s visit to Dartmouth.
The agreement builds on the long and successful relationship between the two Colleges. It records an intent to further develop the co-operation and exchange programme between the Royal Navy and the German Navy.
Capt Woodard said: “We have enjoyed an excellent relationship with the German Naval Academy for a number of years. Cadets from Marineschule Mürwik visit us on an annual basis to take part in training on Dartmoor and in the College grounds alongside our Cadets.
The re-signing of the twinning agreement means that we will continue working with the German Navy to find opportunities for Cadets and staff members from both Colleges to meet regularly for training purposes, and to enhance ideas as well as for cultural, sporting, and social events.

“We also have a German Naval Officer on the staff here at BRNC. The re-signing of the twinning agreement means that we will continue working with the German Navy to find opportunities for Cadets and staff members from both Colleges to meet regularly for training purposes, and to enhance ideas as well as for cultural, sporting, and social events.
“Early integration increases the knowledge of each other’s Navy and will be a tremendous benefit to the young officers as their careers develop.”
During his visit Rear Admiral Abry was briefed on the training delivered at BRNC and was able to witness BRNC’s latest entry taking part in their day-long assessment, known as Havoc.
The assessment is a culmination of everything the Cadets have learnt since joining the College five weeks ago.
It includes physical tests, a leadership task, seamanship, Naval knowledge, uniform inspections and rounds.
